Fernanda Montoro is an artist working in photography and video, originally from Montevideo, Uruguay.
In 2002 she moved to London, where she studied filmmaking and co-founded Satori Films. Her first documentary, Historias de tres minutos, received a Special Jury Mention at the Buenos Aires Latin American Film Festival and the Félix Olivier Award at the Uruguay International Film Festival. Her follow-up short, El más acá, was awarded Best International Short by the Uruguayan Film Critics Association (FIPRESCI) at the Piriápolis de Película International Film Festival.
While working in film, she discovered analog photography, which became a central part of her artistic practice. She works primarily with Polaroid and 35 mm, creating both personal and commissioned projects across photography and video.
Her work has been shown in solo exhibitions at CAMAC Art Center (Marnay-sur-Seine), Hotel Savign (Provins), Canning House (London), and Art Büro (Montevideo), and in group shows in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto, London, and Montevideo. She has also participated in international art fairs including Chic Art Fair (Paris) and The Angel Art Fair (London), and was a regular exhibitor at Broadway Market and other independent art spaces in London.
Her photography has been commissioned for numerous book covers, including titles by Penguin Random House and other international publishers. Her images have been used in fiction, non-fiction, and poetry titles published in various countries.
Her photographs have also been used as album covers for music releases published digitally and in physical formats including vinyl, cassette, and CD.
Her work has been featured in publications including El País Cultural, UK Saturday Times, The New York Times, Harper's Bazaar Argentina, Oh La La Magazine and Light Leaks, among others. It has also appeared in books such as 101 Ways to Do Something Impossible, Polaroid Notes, Polaroid Journal, For the Love of Light, Instant Love, and In Her Own Image, as well as in editorial projects for institutions such as the Opéra National de Paris.
From 2015 to 2021, she produced Otra Semana en Cartoon (Another Week on Cartoon), a weekly show aired by Cartoon Network for six seasons, later released globally and made available on HBO Max. The show received several awards, including a Clio Entertainment Silver and a PromaxBDA, and has surpassed 400 million views on YouTube.
Alongside her partner, filmmaker Agustín Ferrando, she also produces Tiranos Temblad, a long-running YouTube video series documenting life in Uruguay. Together they experiment with new formats through their own projects. They are currently releasing episodes of a documentary series titled Analizando Humanos (Analysing Humans), based on observations about human behavior and everyday life.
